Oral finasteride is an androgen hormone inhibitor used to treat male pattern baldness in men only. It works by blocking the conversion of testosterone to another potent androgen, 5-alpha-dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which plays an important role in the development of male pattern baldness

Contraindications
Any of the following may be reason to choose a different drug. Inform your doctor before starting therapy.
Allergic to finasteride

Dosage and Administration
Dosages may require modification to adjust for individual sensitivities and associated medical conditions.
Adults Under 60 1 mg taken by mouth every day.
Adults 60 and Over Consult your physician.
Usual Duration of Use
The length of therapy varies depending on the response of the patient.
A minimum of 3 months may be necessary to assess whether a beneficial response has bee achieved.
If You Miss a Dose Take as soon as possible.
If close to the next dose, skip and take the next dose.
Do not double the dose.
Storage
Keep all medications out of the reach of children
Store in a tightly closed container at room temperature in a dry, dark place. Do not store in the bathroom. Moisture can cause the drug to break down.

Infants and Children
This drug is not recommended for use in this age group.

Adults Over 60
Although a dosage adjustment may not be needed, caution should
nevertheless be exercised together with careful monitoring, as patients in
this age group tend to exhibit reduced renal and hepatic functions.

Drug Dependency
This drug is not expected to cause physical or psychological dependence.
